Year 10 Mathematics
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Dr L. Sheryn.
The aim of 10MAT is to introduce and develop students’ mathematical understanding through Level 5 and build a foundation for Level 6 of the New Zealand Mathematics Curriculum.
Students will cover concepts in Geometry, Algebra, Number and Statistics. Within Geometry, they study Pythagoras' Theorem and Trigonometric ratios in various applications. They also study volume and surface area. Students develop their understanding of algebraic expressions and how to describe both linear and non-linear patterns as equations or graphs. They learn how to apply their understanding of ratios, percentages, fractions, decimals and GST in a real-world context. Within Statistics, students explore bi-variate data using the Statistical Investigation (or PPDAC) cycle.
Students are given the opportunity to take the NCEA Numeracy assessment and gain the 10 credits required for University Entrance. Other assessments will be school topic tests.
