Subject Description

Aims of the course: - Students will learn and develop the skills needed for NCEA Religious Education, while gaining broad content knowledge in Scripture, Church Teaching and Church History.
- Students will learn to develop and apply skills to investigate society, explore issues, make informed decisions and work cooperatively with others.
- Students will develop their faith throughout the year. This is done through their attendance at full school Masses, a year level Retreat, a class Mass, and taking part in preparing and sharing prayer and Gospel readings at the start of each lesson.
The course covers a wide selection of units from both the Understanding Faith Curriculum and Tō Tātou Whakapono Our Faith new RE Curriculum. These topics could include: - Te Rongopai Good News: Creation, Covenant and Freedom - Journeys of Freedom
- The Middle Ages
- Sinfulness and Reconciliation
- The Teachings of Jesus
- Liturgical Year Celebrations
- Special Character – Mercy values
- Relationships and Hauora - elements of the New Zealand Health Curriculum are also addressed.

Students are formally assessed throughout the year with group presentations, in-class tests, individual assessments, and creative assessments.
