Year 13 Digital Technologies

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs M. Thorpy.

Digital Technologies enables students to undertake technological practice to create fit for purpose digital outcomes. Students will use complex techniques and skills and a range of tools and enhancements within the Microsoft 365, Adobe CS and VS Code, suites of software. Students will critically evaluate, communicate, and create a variety of digital outcomes in an innovative and ethical way, and will meaningfully engage with a range of wider community stakeholders to solve problems and produce outcomes. Students will use project management tools to develop the skills, knowledge and ability to adapt themselves to an ever-changing global environment. 


Digital media tools and software applications to develop an outcome include: design principles, computer graphics, graphic design, print design, desktop publishing, animation, web design, digital video, and audio.

Term 1
AS91608, 3.1, 4 CREDITS, UNDERTAKE BRIEF DEVELOPMENT TO ADDRESS AN ISSUE WITHIN A DETERMINED CONTEXT AND AS91903, 3.4, 4 CREDITS, USE COMPLEX TECHNIQUES TO DEVELOP A DIGIAL MEDIA OUTCOME FOR AN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE (INTERNAL ASSESSMENT)

Students will strengthen core knowledge related to the management of digital information, digital media, ethical issues relating and key features of Website design and application software. They will use complex Website design skills, technology practice and project management skills to develop their digital media outcome, e.g. complex VS Code html/css coding skills, Photoshop, responsive layout, drop down menus, design original animations and produce their own videos to embed in the website.

Term 2
AS91610, 3.3, 6 CREDITS, DEVELOP A CONCEPTUAL DESIGN FOR AN E-PUBLICATION BOOKLET CONSIDERATING FITNESS FOR PURPOSE IN THE BROADEST SENSE, (INTERNAL ASSESSMENT)

Students will be developing and designing an e-publication print design booklet to meet the needs and requirements of their end-users. They will be using complex skills with Adobe CC Indesign and Photoshop to produce their digital media outcome. They will gather and provide feedback from stakeholders throughout the design, development and testing processes to improve their designs and to produce a high quality outcome.

Term 3
AS91909, 3.10, 3 CREDITS, PRESENT A REFLECTIVE ANALYSIS OF DEVELOPING A DIGITAL OUTCOME (DCAT EXAM - 3 HOURS)

Students are to respond to questions relating to a digital outcome they have developed, e.g. website design or e-publication print design. They will be required to discuss the decisions made during the development of the digital outcome and draw conclusions about the outcome and/or the development process. Also, they will be required to focus on how relevant implications were considered during the development of their outcome, e.g. cultural, legal, ethical intellectual property, privacy, accessibility, usability, functionality and aesthetics. Students must prepare three images in advance to include in their assessment: digital outcome, planning process, and relevant digital component of the outcome in the software used to create it, e.g. VS Code html/css and Photoshop for a website. The Senior Exams will be held at the end of Term 3 and students will be completing a Practice Exam during this time.

Term 4
AS91610 DCAT EXAM

Students will be practising for AS91610 Present a Reflective Analysis of Developing a Digital Outcome, their DCAT Exam which will take place in October.

Recommended Prior Learning

Open to all students. Prior knowledge from taking Year 11/12 DTG will be an advantage.


Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Students can attend a Yoobee College of Design Visual Studio Code html/css coding course, Adobe CS Photoshop and Indesign Course.
